How does a laser
work?
The word LASER is an acronym
for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission
of Radiation. Medical lasers use an intense beam
of light to remove unwanted, damaged, or diseased
cells without harming the surrounding healthy
ones. The laser's energy may be delivered as a
continuous wave or in pulses, depending on the
treatment and the type of laser used.
Do
Laser Treatments Hurt?
Some Patients
say they feel a slight sting, like the snap of
a rubber band on the skin, followed by a feeling
of sun burn. Many treatments do not require anesthesia.
However, some patients feel more comfortable with
a local numbing agent such as ice or anesthetic
cream. For others, a local anesthetic injection
may be beneficial.
